Aftermath of installation of new Emirs: Police take over strategic areas in ancient city

Policemen, armed to the teeth, are said to have taken over some strategic areas of the ancient city of Kano, where Governor Abdullahi Ganduje installed four new Emirs on Saturday, apparently to ward off any security backlash.

Daily Trust, reports that a large contingent deployment of heavily armed policemen was made around the palace of embattled Emir of Kano, Mohammed Lamido Sanusi, whose authority was whittled down from 44 local government areas in the state to just 10, by the installation on Saturday, by the governor and personal residents of some senior council members of the emirate.

About 10 Police Hilux Vans, were said to have stationed at Kofar Kudu emir’s palace, after conveying heavily-armed officers and men there, while another 10 were equally camped around personal residence of Chief of Staff to the Emir of Kano Malam Muhammadu Sanusi along Iyaka road, the report, said. 

Further observation showed that another 10 police patrol vehicles were stationed at the main entrance of Kano State Government House, while one patrol van was kept at the personal resident of the incumbent Galadiman Kano Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, as well as the main entrance of Audu Bako State Secretariat.

The paper, quoted one of the policemen at the secretariat as confiding that they were conveyed to the area as early as 6am.
