NUJ: Anambra media summit kicks off with calls for responsible journalism

Governor Willie Obiano has called on journalists to be objective and factual in their reports.

The Governor made this charge while delivering a speech  at the a summit organized by the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), Anambra state chapter Thursday.

Gov. Obiano, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke admonished journalists against being harbingers of negative  and fake news, particularly at this era of social media influence. Chairman NUJ Anambra State, Emmanuel Ifesinachi is Chief Host.

The summit took off under the Chairmanship of  Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Political matters, Barr.Ifeatu Obi-Okoye,

In her speech, university Don and   communication scholar, Prof. Chinyere Okunna stated that the press is the oxygen of democracy, adding that journalists should strive to  strengthen democracy in Nigeria. Okunna stated that journalists should constantly contribute to national development.  

Delivering a lead paper, Dr Obiora Okonkwo charged journalists to be sensitive in conflict reporting. Dr. Okonkwo who delivered a paper entitled "Media, Democratic Governance and Development in Nigeria" called on the media to be bold and courageous in their reportage of issues.

The summit also has in attendance, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,J ames Eze amongst others. Representatives of different chapels and students of training institutions were also attended.
