*ASMACS President, students applaud his exemplary leadership
*HOD urges students to be studious
The Head Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic, Oko Dr Onyeka Uwakwe has received Award of Excellence from students.
The event took place Wednesday October 16 and the award is from the Association of Mass Communication student (ASMACS), Federal Polytechnic Oko.
The organizers of the event led by ASMACS President, Comrade Eze Nduka Duke . Speaking on behalf of the students, Duke stated that "the award came following an exemplary leadership and unmatchable diligence he has so far exhibited in his duty as the Head of Department."
Comrade Duke also lauded Dr. Uwakwe for his numerous contributions to learning in Nigeria citing his scholarly books and numerous journal articles in online and mainstream publications.
The event was graced by dignitaries and top academics from the department. In attendance were Mrs Constance Egbue, Academic Adviser; Mr. Benjamin Obioha, Barr. F. M. Oduah, Barr. Collins Obiorah, Mr. Arinze Okeke, Mr. Emmanuel Okika and Mrs Adaku Ifeobu. Other staff in attendance were Merssrs Collins Esiobu, Vincent Okafor and Emnanuel Ikemdinachi. Most people present took time extolling the sterling leadership qualities of Dr. Uwakwe.
He was particularly commended for his vast contributions towards the betterment of the department especially with regard to upgrading Mass Communication studios as well as the recent reaccreditation of the department by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.
Dr. Uwakwe was also commended for affiliating the Nigerian Institute of Journalism to the department, making the department second in the south east to do so.
In his response, Dr. Uwakwe thanked the organisers stating that the leadership of the department shall continue to identify with the interests of the students. He charged students to be studious and prepare for examinations.
Dr. Onyeka Uwakwe began duty as the Head, Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic, Oko since January 15, 2016. He was subsequently elected Dean School of Information Technology on May 21, 2018.
