A workshop involving mainly communications lecturers across the country has ended with a call for more efforts on reporting child rights.
At the workshop which held at Bayview Hotels, Owerri, participants brainstormed on how best to mainstream child rights in communications curriculum nationwide.
Key lectures were delivered by Prof. Pai Obanya, Emeritus Professor Institute of Education; Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and Dr. Noel Ihebuzor, Education Development and Performance consultant.
The workshop entitled "Validation of Draft Reviewed Curriculum of Child Rights Reporting Course" is organised by Federal Ministry of Education and UNICEF.
Participants mainly converged to appraise the unbundled mass communication curriculum in university system while also continuing mainstreaming of the child reporting curriculum in other tertiary education.
Speaking to our reporter, a participant at the workshop and a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Onyeka Uwakwe stated that the workshop has been beneficial and refreshing. He asserted that the workshop became imperative in view of growing concerns on rights of the child in Nigeria. Dr Uwakwe who is also Dean School of Information Technonology, Federal Polytechnic, Oko Dr. Onyeka Uwakwe stated that child rights reporting has been mainstreamed in some reporting courses in the Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
